It started as a family event where Greta and Jesper on Saturday May 11th went with their daughter Sandra, son in law Michal and the two small grandchildren Victor and Helena to a children bike event in Frederikshavn. During this event Team Rynkeby had a booth promoting the Sunday charity day where there would be bicycle races, walking and running events. The participation fee would go to charity as Team Rynkeby supports seriously ill children. It therefore did not take long before Jesper decided to sign in for a new half marathon even though the did one the weekend before. Michal thought it sounded like a great idea and signed in too 🙂
Sunday May 12th at 10.00 the start took place and the two Bornholm Runners participants went out on 2 rounds of 10 km plus a 1 km slope on the highest point of Frederikshavn where the old bunkers from World War II is situated. It was a beautiful race through the botanic garden and then into the forest area for a little later coming down to seaside and running along the sea into Frederikshavn Centre.
After 2 rounds Michal ended 6th in the time of 2 hours 4 minutes and 33 seconds while Jesper finished as number 7 in 2 hours 9 minutes straight and by this some seconds faster than the week before.
Jesper had to this particular run got supported by Mathias Hestbæk Andersen who created a monthly donation to Sport’n’Charity as a collaboration with Bornholm Runners. This means that during this half marathon we could be part of supporting seriously ill children by both Rynkeby activities as well as children with cancer by www.Sportncharity.dk
